About P.E.O. & Our Projects

A Sisterhood Rooted in Friendship, Purpose & Philanthropy

The P.E.O. Sisterhood is one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America, with nearly 6,000 chapters across the United States and Canada. P.E.O. is dedicated to helping women pursue higher education through six philanthropies that provide financial assistance and encouragement to women of all ages and backgrounds.

Since its founding, P.E.O. has helped thousands of women pursue their educational dreams and create brighter futures for themselves, their families, and their communities.

P.E.O. Loans & Grants

Educational Loan Fund (E.L.F.)

Applicants for the Educational Loan Fund must be recommended by a local P.E.O. chapter, demonstrate financial need and academic ability, and be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution in the United States or Canada. Applicants must also meet eligibility requirements related to residency, credit history, graduation timeline, and loan qualifications. Loan amounts are $12,000 for an accredited non-degree or associate degree program, $15,000 for bachelor's degree programs, $20,000 for master's degree programs, $25,000 for doctoral degree programs. With an interest rate of just 2%, the ELF loan offers a competitive rate and creates a pathway for education that doesn’t lead to insurmountable debt. With no interest accumulating and no payment due until after graduation, women can focus on their studies.

Program for Continuing Education (P.C.E.)

The Program for Continuing Education (PCE) provides one-time grants of up to $4,000 to women in the United States and Canada whose education has been interrupted and who are returning to school to improve their skills, complete a degree or certification, and pursue employment or career advancement. Eligible applicants must be recommended by a local P.E.O. chapter, enrolled in an accredited educational program, and within 18 months of completing their studies. Grants may be used for academic or technical courses, including online programs, and can help cover expenses such as tuition, books, supplies, childcare, transportation, testing fees, uniforms, and equipment required for the course of study.
